Job overview

The governors of this thriving mixed 11-16 Catholic High School are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Art and Computing to join an ambitious and highly supportive team.

Corpus Christi Catholic High School in Fulwood has become a school of choice for parents, following the publication of an exceptionally positive Ofsted report in February 2024. A glowing Section 48 report in 2022 offered praise to the improvements made and giving an overall judgement of 'outstanding'. Over the last few years, the school has been inundated with admissions requests from parents wanting their children to benefit from the high expectations and strong Catholic ethos that were commended by inspectors. On the back of record GCSE examination results in 2024, which resulted in our Progress 8 figure of +0.67 being in the top 5% of all secondary schools in England, the school is now massively oversubscribed.

The Ofsted report showed that inspectors were particularly impressed by the school’s pupils. Their good manners, good behaviour, respect for each other and keenness to learn were all praised in the report. Inspectors commented that staff and governors ‘...have rapidly improved the school into a place where pupils thrive’. They also stated that the school ‘sets exceptionally high expectations of pupils’ conduct and achievement. Classrooms are an oasis of calm and purposeful learning. Pupils are highly motivated and engage tremendously well during lessons. As such, they are achieving better than they have before.’

Leaders at the school believe that improvements in the quality of teaching have had a strong impact on attendance. ‘Attendance has improved’ noted inspectors, ’because pupils enjoy coming to school’. As a result, the school has been consistently recognised as being within the top 1% of schools in the country for attendance.

Facilities at Corpus Christi have also undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years. As well as adding new science laboratories, a new state of the art food and nutrition room and a new chapel to a building that was already equipped with outstanding facilities, pupils have recently been provided with a huge garden area to the rear of the school. Inspired by the work of Charles Jencks, ‘the garden’ includes paths, seating, borders and an area for outdoor chess.

Governors and staff were delighted with the recognition that they received from Ofsted and the Diocese, but they are ambitious for the next phase of the school’s development and determined to do all that is needed to ensure that every pupil at Corpus Christi experiences a quality of education that is exceptional.

Closing Date: Monday 20 January 2025 at 12-noon

Our vision for Corpus Christi Catholic High School is a vision of Catholic education at its best: an education of the highest quality that enables all children to thrive. We have a very strong Catholic ethos and a strong belief in the unique dignity and unique God-given potential of each individual child; not just the potential to achieve academic success, but the potential to flourish and grow in every way possible.

At Corpus Christi we promise to get to know you and your child exceptionally well and to do everything necessary to ensure that your child fulfils their potential. We want you to be able to say at the end of five years that you could not have chosen a better school for your child: because they attained the best possible examination results; because they grew in self-confidence; because they grew fully as a person and developed a profound respect for the dignity of other people; and because they grew in their faith.

We have exceptionally high expectations of our pupils in every aspect of their development. We insist on the highest standards of appearance and we expect our pupils to behave impeccably. Visitors to our school frequently comment on the warmth of the welcome that they receive from our pupils who have a well-deserved reputation for being extremely well mannered.

Our school motto ‘Unum in Corpore Uno’ or ‘Together in One Body’ reflects the importance that we attach to our school community: a community that provides the love, support, encouragement and advantage that children need in order to become the best that they can be. We are proud of our pupils and proud of our school. The best way to appreciate our thriving school is to visit us during a normal school day. If you would like to arrange a visit please contact me at school.

Celebrating GCSE Success

Pupils and staff were again celebrating in 2023 after pupils attained the highest ever number of top GCSE grades and impressive successes across a wide range of subjects.

From the beginning of March, Year 11 pupils at Corpus Christi again followed a rigorous Revision Programme with all pupils being provided with an individual revision plan and a wide range of additional support after school and in the school holidays. There is no doubt that engaging with this programme made a significant difference for many of the school’s pupils.

Headteacher Mr Hankin said: ‘We are very pleased that so many pupils have achieved such excellent results this year. The hard work of staff and pupils and the support of parents undoubtedly made a huge difference’.

Excellence in Learning

We believe that each individual child is most likely to achieve outstanding success when great things are expected of them and when they are thoroughly enjoying the experience of learning.

We recognise that learning how to learn is as important as ensuring that children experience a high level of challenge and enjoyment. With this in mind we focus strongly on developing effective learning skills to ensure that all our pupils develop the resilience that is necessary in order to make outstanding progress.

Growing in Faith

Our Catholic faith is at the heart of our school community and the values proclaimed by Jesus in the Gospels are central to everything  that we do. We pray together at the start and end of the day and each year group takes part in a morning liturgy once a week.

We gather together to celebrate Mass in our Chapel each week and at key points throughout the school year. At the end of each academic year we celebrate a whole school Mass of thanksgiving in our Sports Hall. We also have regular devotions to Our Lady as well as services at Christmas and Easter.

Caring for each individual

Caring deeply for each individual child is a fundamental part of our Corpus Christi way of life. Our school community is like a family providing love, support, encouragement and people who know each other well. We place a strong emphasis on building positive relationships and our pupils have a well-deserved reputation for the courtesy that they show towards our visitors as well as towards each other.

Learning outside the classroom

We are extremely proud of the quality and variety of extra-curricular opportunities available to our pupils. We recognise that learning outside the classroom can have a major impact on a child’s experience of school life providing additional challenge and enjoyment. We have outstanding sports facilities including a fully equipped fitness suite and a Sports Hall capable of hosting a number of activities including Cricket, Badminton, 5-a-side Football, Basketball, Tennis and Netball.
