Job overview

Our successful, established English faculty is looking for a new team member with the passion and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on the young people at our school. At the heart of our curriculum is the exploration of the human condition, exploring themes of identity, relationships, and conflict across the key stages. We choose our texts carefully to reflect the breadth of literature and experiences with which we want our students to engage. We are reflective, supportive, and collaborative in our approach, using research to underpin our teaching and learning practices, and being mindful of staff workload in decisions particularly around shared planning and marking expectations. We have established links with local universities, and there are opportunities every year for staff to mentor ITT students who can learn from our knowledgeable and supportive team.

This role would be ideal for a Qualified Teacher or an Unqualified Teacher that has the passion and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on the young people at our school.

At Moseley, you can look forward to being part of a dynamic team who are responsive to the needs of the students, with Entry Level being delivered from Year 9, to ensure that targeted students get the support in accessing GCSE. At A-level, we have a varied and engaging choice of texts and these are adapted to the needs and interests of each cohort.

A focus on literacy is central to our school curriculum, with tutor time reading well-established in the school. As an English teacher, you will be part of the team supporting this drive, closely collaborating with our librarian, to ensure all students make the most of our wonderful school library, as well as running competitions and other activities for students in all year groups.

Our perfect teaching candidate will:

·          Be a consistently good to outstanding practitioner.

·          Be committed to exceptional standards of teaching and learning.

·          Be able to motivate, challenge and inspire students to achieve their best.

·          Be able to establish and develop outstanding relationships with students and staff.

·          Help us to build on already good English results.

·          Contribute to our core vision and values.

We welcome candidates to visit the department and school, please contact our recruitment team recruitment@moseley.bham.sch.uk to arrange a visit if required.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 10th October 2024.

The school’s systems  are geared to support the progress of all students. The curriculum,  assessment, staffing, timetable, technology and a wealth of other  resources enable each student to receive personalised support to achieve  ambitious goals. A global perspective, that celebrates diversity and  respect for individual rights, pervades the school and helps us to  nurture responsible citizens and independent thinkers.

At Moseley all  staff are provided with a level of guidance and training which enables  them to develop as leading professionals in order that they can make a  significant contribution to the educational community in Birmingham and  nationally. We want staff and students to work in an  emotionally intelligent school where we acknowledge the fallibility of  human beings and recognise the impact our actions and words have on  others.

Our pastoral system ensures that each student is cared for and  their needs are met through effective partnerships with all our  stakeholders, especially parents and carers. All students have  opportunities to broaden their social and cultural horizons. The school  provides a clear moral framework based on shared values in which the  students feel safe and can flourish. Students are encouraged to reflect  on their own beliefs, appreciate different views and develop  understanding of their own identity and their own self-worth. Moseley School and Sixth Form is a place where staff and students are  aware of how personal and political decisions affect the future of the  environment and of their responsibility to help to sustain our planet.

We are a caring community where positive personal relationships have a  civilising influence. We recognise the potential in everyone and we  support and challenge everyone to achieve their potential. We provide  opportunities for our students to develop leadership and resilience, to  demonstrate initiative and to improve their personal communication  skills. All of the School’s diverse communities share the vision and  purpose of the school and through developing character and scholarship  we are striving to achieve excellence.
