As soon as possible

We wish to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of English with a proven ability to produce excellent results. We are looking for a colleague who can excite and motivate young people, is committed to bringing imaginative ideas into the classroom and can turn students with promise into skilful and successful learners.

Bingley is a special place to work, noted by Ofsted for its 'remarkable..warm relationships' and its 'happy and caring' culture. Not only does it have such a positive culture, but staff are aspirational for students and students want to succeed. The popularity and success of the school has been marked by the rapid growth over the last 5 years leading to us being significantly oversubscribed. This growth is coupled with our new onsite Resourced Provision (ASD focus and work that will begin soon on our long-awaited 24 classroom block)

At the heart of the school is the English department, united through a shared love of literature and language, we hope to inspire students to truly value our subject: enjoying their lessons as well as being challenged academically. You would be part of a friendly and supportive department where you would have the chance to really make a difference to our students and contribute to our mission to drive forward standards.

Applications are welcome from both ECTs and more experienced colleagues. We offer an excellent ECT support programme with a bespoke schedule of training and mentors. A recruitment/retention payment or TLR might be available for the right candidate alongside this vacancy.

The role and responsibilities include:

●       Provision of high-quality teaching of English at Key Stage 3 and 4 and (depending on the candidate’s experience) Key Stage 5

●       Raising student attainment

●       Assessing, recording and reporting on student progress

●       Supporting the vision and values of the school

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

●       Knowledge/experience of teaching English across all three Key Stages

●       Up to date teaching methodology

●       An ability to work confidently within a team and communicate effectively

●       A passion for inspiring young people to attain the highest level possible

We can offer you:

●       The opportunity to work within a collaborative team of staff who are committed to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning of English

●       Proactive support for your career development

●       An approachable and supportive Leadership team and Governing body

Closing date: Wednesday 23rd October, 9am

Interviews will be held: Friday 25th October

The School

Bingley Grammar School is a 11 – 18 Voluntary Aided Comprehensive School with a roll of 1500 in the lower school and 400 in the 6th Form. The oldest of the current buildings dates from 1853 and the newest from 2000,  the major part having been built in the 1930s.

The school occupies a semi-rural site on the north bank of the River Aire upstream of Bingley. It has played a key role in the town and the surrounding area since its foundation in 1529. Perhaps its most famous pupil is Sir Fred Hoyle, one of the 20th century's most eminent astronomers.

Bingley

Bingley is a market town set in the picturesque Aire Valley halfway between Bradford and Keighley. The town is a 20 minute drive from Skipton, the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales with its stunning Pennine scenery. It is also close to the famous Ilkley Moor and the important literary shrine, the Bronte village of Haworth with its Parsonage Museum, home to the Bronte sisters. Bingley, once a key centre of the woollen industry, specialising in the finest worsted cloth, is now a popular commuter district for Bradford, Leeds and the Aire Valley with a good local train and bus service. Among its attractions is the Five Rise Locks on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, one of the engineering marvels of the 18th century.
