A successful, popular, and high-achieving school with over 1000 students, The Hurst School combines outstanding facilities with a real commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, the school is situated in a stunning rural location on Berkshire-Hampshire border with easy access from Basingstoke, Reading, Newbury and surrounding areas.

The English Department at The Hurst is a committed team of passionate, experienced teachers, with high expectations of ourselves and our classes, who aim to empower students with a mastery of language and to enrich them through the study of literature, accessing a wide and varied curriculum in Key Stages 3 and 4.

The Department has regularly secured good outcomes at GCSE in both English Language and Literature, and progress made by students across the whole ability range is improving.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our group of professional and dynamic English staff to deliver the KS3 and KS4 English Language and Literature curriculum. You should be willing to share our values of Respect, Commitment, Ambition, Community and Excellence. We work very collegiately in order to share expertise and reduce additional workload. We are also active on Social Media with English Department accounts on Twitter and Instagram, and use the ‘Educake’ platform for setting of homework and revision.

Located mostly on the upper floor of the South Block, the department has 8 dedicated English classrooms, an intervention space and large staff work area. English teaching spaces are well-equipped with texts and resources, projectors and sound systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a friendly and supportive school to help deliver outstanding lessons and ensure the best outcomes for all of our students. Applications are welcome from ECTs as well as experienced teachers. The benefits package includes free on-site parking; access to an on-site gym and an on-site nursery.

This school and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment.
