Job overview

Benfield School is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Geography who can inspire students to achieve excellence and explore their ambitions in Geography. We're looking for someone who will not only teach but also mentor students, helping them build a strong sense of community and leadership through global understanding and environmental stewardship.

You will work to foster a collaborative and supportive classroom environment that builds a strong sense of community among students and connects classroom learning to the broader world. You will also plan trips or clubs that expand upon what is learned in the lesson to encourage a wider connection to the community of the North East.

We're looking for someone who can inspire and influence and who:

  • Can develop and deliver high-quality, innovative lessons in Geography, setting high standards that inspire students to achieve academic excellence.
  • Will encourage curiosity and ambition by integrating current global issues, technology, and project-based learning, motivating students to explore the world with an analytical and critical perspective.
  • Can mentor students to become thoughtful leaders who understand the complexities of global geography and are prepared to contribute positively to society.

Benfield School is a fully inclusive 11–16 school with a distinct ethos and a strong sense of support and loyalty. Excellent relationships between students and staff and a purposeful learning environment are evident in lessons and around the modernised site. With this foundation, our students have a strong platform to be confident, happy and able to achieve their aspirations.

Our school is one of seven primary and secondary schools within the NEAT Academy Trust family of schools. At the heart of our trust is the aim to nurture, educate, achieve and transform the lives of all young people within the communities we serve across the North East. We have a national research school, which aims to build and strengthen networks of schools throughout the region and help them access effective education research and implement it in everyday practice.

In return, we offer:

  • Great opportunities for continuing professional development and a career pathway across the trust.
  • A team of hardworking, dedicated and friendly staff where everyone is valued.
  • The benefit of working in a highly collaborative multi-academy trust.
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, which the trust also contributes to on your behalf.
  • Recognition of previous service with other schools, academies, local government, etc.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), delivered by Health Assured – the UK and Ireland’s leading wellbeing provider.
  • Good public transport links via Tyne and Wear Metro and road links from the A19 and A1058 Coast Road.

Welcome from the Principal

Benfield is very proud of our distinct ethos with its strong sense of mutual support and loyalty, where excellent relationships are evident between students and staff and a purposeful learning environment is evident in lessons and around our modernised site. With this foundation, our students have a strong platform to be confident, happy and are able to achieve their aspiration.

Benfield has an incredible team of excellent teachers and support staff who genuinely care for the students and a fantastic group of young people who have a great love for the school and who take great pride in what they do here.

We have a very clear vision – all of our students are set challenging academic and personal targets and are given the support and encouragement to succeed to ensure that each of them goes out into the globally competitive world after leaving Year 11 or Year 13 with the skills, attributes and behaviours for 21st century living.

The environment we provide for this to take place in is one which is stimulating and exciting, whilst also recognising that education takes place both inside and outside the classroom and through a range of various learning styles.

Within our learning community, we welcome the parents and carers of our students, placing full value on the vital role they play in the education of their children. We believe that it is essential that an active partnership and effective collaboration between home and school is in place to make sure that individually, our students are provided with the start to their life that they deserve.

I hope you find our website helpful and that it conveys our values and ethos.

Mr A Martin

Headteacher
