Job overview
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Geography to commence teaching on 1st September 2025. He / she /they would be expected to teach Geography throughout Key Stage 3 and up to A-Level level. Students in Key Stage 3 follow the Cambridge Secondary programme in Geography. At IGCSE level, Geography is one of our option subjects and it is currently offered at A-Level. A second subject is desireable - flexibility when working in an island school is important, Travel & Tourism is often paired with Geography however we are interested in any other subject area.
The Vijay International School, Praslin is a not-for-profit school owned by an association of parents who have their children enrolled at the school. The school offers educational programmes to children aged 3 years to 18 years, with Year 11 students taking IGCSE and Year 12 and 13 taking A-Level examinations with CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Examinations). We are a fully accredited CAIE centre. The school opened in 2008 and has grown from 47 children to over 230 during that time with an improving local and national reputation for developing the whole child whilst maintaining excellent examination results.
We believe in challenging students to achieve their absolute best. We aim to give them a good grounding in literacy and numeracy whilst not forgetting that the other subjects in the curriculum are essential to effective progress and development. Students in Years 1 - 6 follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales with Early Childhood following the Early Years Framework. Year groups 7 - 9 follow the Cambridge International Curriculum which paves the way for the IGCSE and then A-Level years.
We are a small and friendly school and have high expectations in terms of the conduct and behaviour of our students. We have very supportive parents and board members and a relatively slow turnover of students. Our intention is for a local student to complete 15 years of education with us on one site whilst welcoming the sometimes more transient expatriate students from a multitude of different countries. Given the mixed nationalities, backgrounds and languages of our students, meeting the needs of EAL students in all lessons is a priority. We have a strong SEN provision and differentiation plays a significant part of our teaching and learning approach.
Praslin is a small island with a population of just over 8000 people. We feel that it is essential that our students acquire a global perspective and are aware of the different lifestyles and circumstances which exist in other countries.
We invite applications from candidates who hold a degree in Education or another degree and a post-graduate teacher qualification, or who have gained QTS through an alternative route whilst maintaining a specialism in within English. A minimum of 2 years teaching experience is required and experience of the UK curriculum is essential. Previous international experience would again be an advantage but is not essential. Candidates should have a proven track record of delivering high quality teaching and learning to students across the ability range. Previous experience with EAL students would be beneficial. The right candidate will be able to deliver an engaging curriculum, create a secure and stimulating learning environment and motivate children to succeed.
We have other posts advertised and encourage teaching couples to apply. Please contact us with queries about other potential teaching vacancies.
We offer:
• The opportunity to join our outstanding team of international teachers
• Enthusiastic and hard working students
• Supportive parents
• A hard-working and supportive Board of Governors, elected from and by the parent body
• An initial 2 year contract, renewable by mutual consent thereafter for 1 or 2 years
• Good quality private sector housing
• Medical cover
• Outward flight at the start of the contract and return flight at the end
• In addition to his/her flight allocation, a teacher is allowed 75kgs of personal effects.
Please note that we welcome applications from teaching couples - please contact us for potential vacancies as we can be somewhat flexible with our staffing in school.
Additional details about the role can be downloaded. Applications to be made through TES and must include curriculum vitae, letter of application and details of at least 2 references from your current workplace.
We welcome early applications as interviews are done on a rolling basis.

Vijay International School Praslin is a mixed, non-denominational all-through school with sixth form situated in the district of Baie Sainte Anne on Praslin Island, The Seychelles. It is an independent, not-for-profit school that caters for students between the ages of 3-18. A smaller school due to catering for an island of only 6,000 residents, VISP is a place with strong links to the career market, providing opportunities of academic or vocational training. It was successfully inspected by Cambridge International Examinations in January 2013, allowing it to give students the opportunity to gain British IGCSE qualifications. From 2015, the school was allowed to offer A Level qualifications.
VISP opened to students back in 2008, in a location formerly taken by the old government school at Baie St Anne. It was named after the principal school sponsor Mr V.J. Patel, a man whose construction company, Vijay Construction, was behind the building of the school. A school that saw its first Year 11 students graduate in July 2014, its running and continued growth has been thanks to small activist groups committed to improving the educational life on the island of Praslin. The most recent development to the school has been the construction of a sports hall in 2016.
