The British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) (http://www.britishschool.si/) is a growing British-style school serving students aged between 3 and 18 from over 30 nationalities in the capital of beautiful Slovenia, Europe’s “hidden jewel”. Classes are small and the students are eager to learn. BISL is an accredited member of COBIS and in March 2024 met all the standards in an ISI BSO compliance inspection. In a full inspection in 2021 the school achieved OUTSTANDING IN ALL CATEGORIES.
About the Opportunity
The role is to teach German to students in KS3-5 and some French to students in KS2 (from Year 3) and KS3. You will be responsible for inspiring and enthusing students in their development of knowledge and skills within Key Stages 2-5. You would be part of a modern languages department teaching three languages across the school.
The successful applicant will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, able to demonstrate a proven commitment to the highest standards of teaching and learning and student achievement; someone with drive and passion who believes in creating a unique, inspiring and outstanding place for learning, able to excite and challenge students of all abilities to make great progress. Applicants should also be prepared to contribute to the wider community aspect of school life, which is expected of every member of the teaching staff.
Applicants must have a relevant degree, teaching qualification and experience of successfully teaching Secondary aged students across Key Stages 3-5. Experience of working with EAL learners from a variety of cultures will be an advantage.
- Because of difficulties in obtaining a visa and residency, it will not be possible to consider applicants from nationalities outside of the UK or EU. Family visas can only be issued after 2 years of employment in the country.
As a British school specialising in delivering the English National Curriculum, IGCSE and A Level to a diverse international student population, strong English language is an essential requirement and applications from first language speakers of English will be preferred.

British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) is an 'Outstanding' School.
BISL is a mixed, non-denominational all-through school with sixth form situated in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It caters for approximately 240 students between the ages of 2-18, and all teaching is provided in English. Its primary school follows the National Curriculum for England and a topic based curriculum in Primary, while its secondary school students have GCSE, IGCSE and A Level examinations approved by AQA and Cambridge University, due to its status as a Cambridge International School. It is an Accredited member of the Council of British International Schools and member of the Council of International Schools (CIS).
The School was founded in September 2008 and received high honours from the start, including a visit from H.M. Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh the same year it opened and a visit from the Duke and Countess of Wessex four years later.
The academic outcomes are outstanding at IGCSE and A Level and the staff to student ratio as an average across the school is at 5:1.
