Joseph Leckie Academy are seeking to appoint an excellent classroom practitioner who is an enthusiastic, innovative and engaging teacher of Science, (preferably including A Level Biology) to join a dynamic and expanding faculty and to add further capacity to increase the opportunities for more targeted intervention classes especially for KS4.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher.
  • Facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
  • Contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
  • To share and support the Academy’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
  • Support and maintain collaborative relationships with staff and external professionals.
  • The successful candidate must hold QTS or equivalent and an honours degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.


We would welcome applications from teachers early in their careers including PGCE students through to experienced staff. The start date will be confirmed on interview based on current role/position or if you are a current PGCE student we can delay the start until you qualify.


Our last Ofsted inspection judged the Academy to be good in all categories and for overall effectiveness, with some excellent feedback across all subjects and our Pastoral Care.

You will have/show:

  • Practical skills and expertise as outlined in the Job description.
  • A passion and vision for working with students in their personal, social and emotional needs as well as their academic development
  • The ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Experience of delivering GCSE Combined Science and/or Separate Science is essential and preferably also Single Science and contributing particularly in Biology, though it is expected you will teach all three areas.
  • The ability to teach A Level Biology at KS5 is highly desirable.
  • The passion to enrich the lives of our students and contribute to the development of Cultural Capital to enhance the life opportunities for our students.
  • A clear understanding of the importance of Safeguarding.
