About the role

The post holder will provide effective and high-quality classroom teaching from Year 6 to GCSE and ensure all pupils reach their potential through the delivery of high quality teaching and learning alongside effective monitoring, assessment and target setting.

What you will be doing:

  • To create well-planned lessons and deliver through effective and appropriate teaching methods, activities and management of class time.
  • To show a good understanding of the aptitudes, needs and prior attainments of the pupils and ensure these are taken into account in lesson-planning.
  • To teach engaging and effective lessons that motivate and inspire pupils of all abilities across the entire age range
  • Use attainment data provided by the school to monitor the progress of pupils taught, ensuring that effective use is made of the data to set targets for achievement.
  • Organise interventions to ensure that the targets of individuals and groups of learners are met.
  • To participate in the School's procedures for lesson observation, seek/implement modification and improvement where required.

Who we are looking for: 

To be considered for this role you will have Qualified Teacher Status, outstanding teaching and subject knowledge, proven teaching experience at secondary level and up to date knowledge of best practice in teaching and learning in science. We would also expect:

  • Proven track record of delivering GCSE specification with excellent outcomes
  • A full awareness of the current issues relating to the developments of teaching science in schools
  • The flexibility and proactivity of approach needed to contribute effectively to the running of a small school 
  • Capacity to work hard, under pressure, to meet deadline

Long Close School is a co-educational, independent school for children aged 2-16, situated in Slough, Berkshire.

The school was founded in 1940 and after a series of developments over the decades was bought by Cognita, the largest independent schools business in the UK, in 2004. The senior school opened in September 2006.
