Aurora Rowan School 

Part of the Aurora Group, Aurora Rowan School in Tokers Green, Reading, Berkshire is due to open in November 2024, supporting young people aged 6 -16 with a diagnosis of Autism spectrum disorder, moderate to Severe Learning needs and associated difficulties, who require an individualised, specialist approach.

We are currently looking to recruit a teacher to join our expanding team and work alongside the Senior Leadership Team  to aid the smooth running of the school.  

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new venture in a school that will grow with you. You will be a part of a Brand-New School set up. It is an opportunity for you to help shape the provision and develop the school to be the best that it can be. 

 

Job Summary 

  • Be responsible for the quality of teaching and learning of all pupils who are assigned to the post holder, having responsibility for their progress, welfare and outcomes. 
  • Supervise the work of any support staff, who are assigned to work with the post holder’s pupils. 
  • Provide leadership across the school in a curriculum area, this to include: 
  • monitoring quality and standards 
  • contributing to school planning and self-evaluation 
  • providing professional support to other teachers and support staff 
  • advising the Head of Education on appropriate resources and materials 
  • leading appropriate professional development. 
  • Implement the aims of the school. 
  • Work to the schools’ values and ensure that values are embedded in everyday practice 

 

Knowledge and Qualifications: 

  • PGCE, QTS or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training  
  • Working knowledge of special education needs including relevant curriculum and learning plans. 

Skills: 

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Ability to coach and mentor LSAs, Teaching Assistants etc. 
  • Ability to adapt teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal according to audience. 
  • Effective skills in planning, preparation, recording and reviewing students’ progress. 
  • Working knowledge of supporting pupils with ASD and those with complex communication and behavioural needs.  
  • Ability to identify and de-escalate emotional and behavioural issues. 
  • Good IT skills. 

Experience: 

  • Knowledge and personal experience of special needs, disabilities, behaviour management and associated issues. 
  • Experience of working in an ASD/ SLD environment would be desirable.
