We are looking for an engaging and positive Independent School Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our Peterborough service where we support children and young people aged between 9 – 19 years with a range of disabilities and primarily a diagnosis of autism, many of whom have additional disabilities and challenging behaviours, with a particular specialism in developing communication and social skills through a therapeutically informed approach.
We are recruiting a full time Specialist School Teaching Assistant within Peterborough.
No two days are ever the same; sometimes they may be challenging but always rewarding and positive.
What you will need to succeed
- Teaching Assistant Qualification is desirable but not essential
- Good numeracy/literacy skills (Functional Skills Level 2 or above or equivalent)
- An understanding of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
- You must have a full clean UK driving licence.
What does an Independent Specialist School Teacher do?
- You will be required to work within small groups and at times on a 1:1 basis with students who require additional support, under the teacher’s guidance.
- You will need to have a proactive approach to use your initiative in situations, including managing behaviour, with the class teacher offering you constant support.
- Take responsibility for the safeguarding of the young people in your care.
- Support the school team to provide a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for students to learn.
- Use an enthusiastic and flexible approach to working and building positive relationships with students and staff.
