Knowledge and skills:             

  • Ability to relate well to children and adults

  • Ability to work with young people who have SEND; including those with learning difficulties, ASC, ADHD, SEMH and conduct disorders.
  • Willingness to participate in training and supervisions/performance management 
  • To have an awareness of and adherence to all school safeguarding procedures and participate in training as appropriate 

Main Duties

  • To support and uphold the school’s vision and values
  • To work with small groups of children or to work with children individually in a 1:1 setting under the guidance of a teacher and the supervision of a deputy headteacher.
  • Give regular feedback on children’s progress to the class teacher and file records.eg tutorial documentation
  •  Meet children’s pastoral needs.
  • Accompany teachers and pupils on educational visits.
  • Display work under the direction of the teacher.
  •  Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times, including following all risk assessments.
  •  Be aware of child protection procedures and report to the relevant member of staff any concerns.
  •  Maintain good relationships with colleagues and work together as a team.
  •  Assist in the supervision of classroom and outdoor activities.
  • To help children of all abilities, including those with special educational needs to learn as effectively and independently as possible, both individually and in small groups
  • To support a range of interventions to support individuals and small groups
  • To work with children on individual targets in reading, writing and maths
  • To support children’s emotional development and resilience when approaching learning tasks
  • To support children’s behaviour in line with the school’s vision, values and positive behaviour policy
  • To assist with children at the beginning and end of the day and at break times as required
  • To have an awareness of and adherence to all school safeguarding procedures and participate in training as appropriate
  • To ensure the health and safety of the children and to report any concerns or details of accidents/incidents as necessary to the Headteacher
  • To assist in the general care of the learning environment by keeping curriculum resources in classrooms and around the school, tidy and in good order.
  • To implement and promote the schools equal opportunities policies at all times and to value diversity.
  • To support the running of the school site management eg support in the kitchen, fire safety procedures/checks, maintaining a covid safe environment. This is an example list and not exhaustive.
