About The Langley Academy Primary

About The Langley Academy Primary

The Langley Academy Primary is an oversubscribed, popular three form entry school which opened in September 2015. It was graded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2018. The Langley Academy Primary is sponsored by The Arbib Education Trust and shares the site with The Langley Academy Secondary.

Arbib Education Trust Ethos

‘One community. Many ideas. Everyone’s Future’

One community – we promote equality, diversity and inclusion, providing ‘a place where you can be yourself’

Many ideas – by valuing different perspectives together we challenge ourselves to discover pioneering teaching approaches

Everyone’s’ Future –  We are driven by our commitment to work with our community to ensure we support and prepare our pupils for lifelong learning and success, enabling them to ‘be the best they can be’.

The Langley Academy Primary Ethos

We recognise that all children learn in different ways. Children are nurtured in a supportive, vibrant environment; specifically designed to stimulate the learning process. Children are motivated to enjoy learning: This results in pupils who are happy, safe, resilient and confident (skills often noted by educational visitors to our school). Children develop the skills needed to succeed under any circumstances and know that they can achieve whatever they aim to. Our success since opening has borne testament to this.

The Langley Academy Primary Vision

Here at The Langley Academy Primary, we firmly believe in putting children first, they are our future leaders and we MUST provide an environment to ensure they fulfil their potential.

At the heart of the vision is a desire to provide a warm, welcoming, inspiring environment that enriches the lives of all pupils. Whilst instilling and developing traditional values of family, brilliance, respect, independence, courage and kindness– based on individual responsibility and partnership.

Underpinning all we do at The Langley Academy Primary is summarised in the school’s strap-line: ‘Curiosity, Exploration and Discovery’.

These skills are delivered through our curriculum using a child-centred, learning-challenge approach. We know that learning is more meaningful and memorable to a child when it comes from within and stems from the children themselves. When teachers build on a child’s interest it is easier to further the child’s knowledge; as such we adopt the best child-centred practice and an enquiry-based approach to teaching and learning (for children throughout our school). We believe this approach helps to create life-long learners, who are ready for an undefined future in the 21st century.

Curiosity

We aim for pupils to develop their natural curiosity and desire to find out more. Teachers develop an environment in which pupils share their enthusiasm for learning.

Exploration

Children are encouraged to make use of resources and artefacts around them to explore the possible solutions to their ideas. Staff ensure appropriate support and guidance is given to make this child-led exploration purposeful.

Discovery

Children develop their critical thinking and evaluative skills as they explain the possible outcomes of their explorations. Skilful questioning, led by staff, helps children to interpret their experiences and make sense of their new discoveries, thus supporting learning.

Curiosity, Exploration and Discovery are the keys to successful learning from the youngest minds to the oldest learners. Children learn from real-life experiences, through Curiosity, Exploration and Discovery; concepts are made real to deepen learning and ensure pupils make progress. The Langley Academy Primary develops these skills from the outset and our Ofsted report fully validates our approach.

Values

Our values clearly support our vision, we want each child to display ‘Curiosity, Exploration and Discovery’ so that they can be the best they can be.

Our values at TLAP are:

Family - We recognise that individual families come in many forms. Families share common values, they support one another and help each other to grow. As a school, we are a large interlinked family. We are part of a Trust and together we support: ‘One community. Many ideas. Everyone’s future’

Brilliance - Brilliance comes in many forms. In whatever task children undertake we want them to aim to give their very best. Through brilliance we can nurture each child’s talent so they recognise their potential and understand how they can support others.

Respect – We live in a society where everyone is different, we may look different, have different dreams, cultures or beliefs. We want our children to be proud of who they are whilst appreciating and respecting the richness of diversity. When we consider the impact our actions have on others, we are more mindful and positive in our interactions, making our school a kinder, happier place to be.

Independence - Each and every child is a future leader. Leaders work with others but have an insight into what they want to achieve. We want our children to be intrinsically motivated – to work for their own gain and develop their own skills. The world is their oyster and we wish to harness the skills to enable them to succeed.

Courage - Life is full of firsts. It is important that the children feel a sense of bravery to try new things. Courage also encompasses following your values and being true to yourself. It reminds children of the importance of doing the right thing.

Kindness - To ensure children grow with the skills to enable them to support others and encourage each other to achieve, we place great importance on kindness.

Our school values, include British Values of:

Democracy

Rule of Law

Individual Liberty

Mutual respectand tolerance of those with different faiths and belief

Curriculum

The curriculum at The Langley Academy Primary is designed to offer a broad and balanced educational experience. Our curriculum is innovative and effective, leading to children gaining knowledge very quickly.

The key foci are revisited through each term and academic year, they include:

• Museum Learning*

• Science, including sustainability

• Internationalism and Diversity

These enhancements will enable pupils to receive rich learning experiences, suitable for 21st century and meeting the future needs of the children.

Ofsted

“The Sponsor’s vision has been realised in that the sponsor and trustees have grown a school that puts pupils first in every respect.”

“The school’s focus on museum learning gives pupils a rich range of experiences that bring the curriculum to life…. pupils regularly demonstrate real awe and wonder as they benefit from a wide range of exciting opportunities, including trips, special events, visits from museum experts and hands-on experiences.”

“Parents are highly complimentary about this outstanding school. They are delighted with the care and education that their children receive”

Parent

“Everything’s a learning opportunity – from writing letters about paddling pools to impromptu solar system models. The teachers are energetic and brilliant”

Teacher

“We work together as a team and it really is a team. It’s really good to be supported and feel part of a team…. I feel like there’s always someone willing to help which is great.”

The Arbib Education Trust

The Langley Academy Primary is one of three schools which are part of The Arbib Education Trust.  Being part of The Arbib Education Trust allows us to not only have an academically rigorous education but also gives our pupils exposure to unique and enriching experiences by:

- Providing cultural experiences wherever we can, whether it is trips abroad or to national museums

- Using our network of contacts to mentor and inspire our staff and students

- Instilling our ‘Curiosity, Exploration, Discovery’ model to question the world around them

Our sponsors’ generous funding and their network of business leaders allows us to offer these enriching opportunities to not only our children but also our staff.  This enables our community to have exposure to opportunities and experience, they would not get anywhere else.

As one of our staff members said “With the support we get from our sponsor we are able to shape a curriculum and our educational vision that is slightly different from the norm so that the children get the very best opportunities. We wouldn’t be the school we were if it wasn’t for the support of the Trust.”
