Job overview

Cambridge International School (CIS) in Bratislava, Slovakia, is seeking to appoint a committed and skilled Upper Primary Class Teacher. This role is for the 2025/26 academic year with the start date to begin on 20th August 2025.

Reporting to: Upper Primary Coordinator

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to deliver outstanding pastoral care while ensuring academic progress across a class of students aged 8 to 12. Upper Primary Class Teachers demonstrate tremendous care, passion, and dedication to their students and the positive relationships they build with them, their parents, and their colleagues.

Main Duties

  • Work closely with their year group team to plan and deliver a consistent, high-level approach, including planning, teaching and learning.
  • Mentor and guide each student individually, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Ensure the classroom is safe and inviting for all students.
  • Maintain paperwork for tracking and recording purposes.
  • Provide cover in the event of staff absence or unavailability.
  • Complete regular playground and canteen duties to ensure student safety and happiness.
  • Regularly liaise with parents and relevant staff members to ensure appropriate channels are used, and communication is clear and consistent.
  • Follow school policy in all aspects of school life.
  • Lead and support school events and training where necessary.
  • Always be a positive influence and act responsibly, considering the school’s reputation.

Key Tasks

  • Teach and support every student in the class.
  • Help each student to maximise their achievement and attainment.
  • Draw up agreed action plans and monitor student progress and concerns.
  • Monitor students’ attendance and punctuality, responding as appropriate.
  • Complete timely assessments and grading per the regular assessment points.
  • Communicate as necessary with the parents of each student in the class. Set up or attend meetings with parents if needed.
  •  If appropriate, consult with other relevant staff, e.g., SEN Coordinator and Subject Specialists.
  • Maintain accurate records and create consistent written reports and evaluations.
  • Ensure an organised approach is taken to prepare lesson materials ahead of time.
  • Maintain and change classroom displays to support student learning and promote excellence.
  • Have a clear cover folder prepared and ready at all times.
  • Plan safe, curriculum-linked trips with detailed risk assessments.
  • Contribute to the end-of-year school yearbook and class review.

Desired Candidate

We seek a committed, skilled Upper Primary Class Teacher with at least two years of experience planning and teaching a primary curriculum (the national curriculum, the Cambridge curriculum, an IB curriculum, etc.) to join our school. Each class teacher has a state-of-the-art classroom with the necessary resources and materials to thrive and succeed. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to students, inspiring them to develop a love of learning, and supporting our students to become mindful, kind, and understanding people ready to make a positive difference in the world.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education.
  • A master’s degree qualification in education is desired.
  • Successful teaching experience with primary-level students, minimum 2 years.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

Experience

  • Proven experience teaching primary-aged students.
  • Experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.
  • Experience with various teaching methodologies.

The initial contract will be for a two-year fixed term, one year by agreement, with the possibility of future renewal by mutual agreement. As with most quality schools, we have a three-month probationary period, details of which are clearly explained in employment contracts.

Working Hours: 8.00 - 16.00 (full time)

Must attend weekly primary staff meetings and training and support school events outside of school hours, such as parent-student-teacher conferences, school performances, etc. at the discretion of the Head of Primary and/or Director.
