<p>This is a fun end-of-term creative writing task which leads children through writing a job advert for a new Christmas Elf. Includes quick analysis of an example text for a new Personal Assistant for Father Christmas and then guides children step by step to write a job advert. Includes examples of humour, persuasion, subheadings, bullet points and rhetorical questions. Lots of opportunities for children to get creative and have fun with various duties, skills and perks of the job. Had lots of success using this with year 6 but would suit all of KS2. Easily adapted to other professions/book characters as follow on tasks - previously led to ‘New Superhero required’ for example. I hope it’s useful and saves some time.</p>

<p>This is a ‘fun’, collaborative, active lesson for some end of term maths revision where children can apply their learning from the Autumn Term to solve 16 reasoning (and a couple of arithmetic) questions. Topics include four operations, negative numbers, lowest common multiple, fractions of amounts, sqaured and cubed numbers, measures and order of operations.<br /> Simply print off the 16 question/answer cards, stick them up around the classroom/playground/area in school and send children off in pairs/small groups to solve each question. Once they’ve solved a problem, they hunt for their answer on the 15 remaining cards which will give them the next question to solve, and so on. Children can record the calculation and answer in their book/on scrap paper. First group to solve all 16 problems can return to the teacher for ‘a prize’.<br /> Also included my very basic PPT introduction slide which explains the task and shows an example question card. Correct sequence of answers are included on front page of resource plus a few other ideas for early finishers.<br /> A good, simple way to get kids moving, talking and revising concepts. <p>Resource includes a PowerPoint slide and supporting writing frame worksheet which leads pupils through a guided writing task, encouraging them to apply their understanding of Scrooge’s character and the types of skills and attitudes he would seek in a new clerk. Task includes use of rhetorical questions, sub-headings, bullet pointed list and opportunity to write in role. Children can have fun elaborating and exaggerating the harsh conditions imposed by Scrooge. Link to short YouTube clip of A Christmas Carol animation included to gather ideas and prompts if necessary. Previously used in Year 6 as an end of term fun, creative writing task. Would also suit KS3.</p>

<p>Resource includes a PowerPoint which leads children through collecting poetic vocabulary, exploring the poem, to creating their own magic box poems using Kit’s structure for support. Had lots of success using this with reluctant writers in year 6 due to poetic form and guided structure but could be used with all of KS2. Included copy of poem, ‘shuffled’ version for chldren to sequence and support frame for SEN/support. Hope it’s useful and saves time.</p>
