Citizenship KS3 - Democracy and Human Rights - Miriam's Vision
Miriam Hyman was killed in the “7/7” London bombings on 7th July, 2005. In her memory, The Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust collaborated with teachers to create Miriam’s Vision, units of work for use across the Key Stage 3 curriculum. The unique, high quality lesson plans, written by teachers for teachers, contain an editable powerpoint, worksheets (PDF), video links and guidance notes.
The aim is to promote social cohesion in response to the circumstances of Miriam’s death.
The unit contains 6 sessons.
• Session 1: Human rights: What are they, and how can they be protected?
• Session 2: Human rights: Balancing rights and responsibilities
• Session 3 How do we make change in a democracy?
• Session s 4 and 5: A third runway for Heathrow - including effects of fuel emissions and climate change. A case study of change through the democratic process.
• Session 6 Applying learning to a school issue of the class’s choice.
