Need an easy ‘Do Now’ task, or a quick ‘end of the lesson sum up’? Maybe a ‘challenge’ task mid lesson - or an oral break from writing!
A quick match-up task can really help solidify the knowledge that is so important to GCSE students studying history but it can be hard to do this task with the minimal effort for a busy teacher.
Here is a resource to help you out! Not only does it have eight ‘Match Up’ tables laid out with some top options to revise GCSE Edexcel history topics (Medicine, Weimar/Nazi Germany and Elizabethan England) - BUT ALSO there is a blank table at the end for you to recreate any match-up table you wish for ANY year group!
To make matters even easier - this Match Up resource is pre-animated - the arrows will click across to link up the correct answers!
It literally is ready to go.
I’ve also included a word document which has both the blank match up table for you to create with AND one which has the match up table from Slide 2 (three tables to a piece of paper).
If you require any changes or additional resources - just get in touch! And if you like it - a positive rating/review goes a long way. Thank you!

Letters from the Past - Renaissance Medicine

Another fantastic series of letters to help your students delve into the Medicine in Britain module. These letters focus in on Renaissance medicine (c.1500-c.1700) - one of the trickiest periods to get a handle on with its mixture of continuity and change.

The letters are written by new physician (and woman-in-disguise) Jenny Tarlestone as she moves to London and gets up to date with both the changes and continuity in medicine at this time. She spends time with Thomas Sydenham, attends the Royal Society and even battles the Great Plague.

These letters are a fantastic resource to introduce students to a topic in a non-threatening and entertaining way filled with facts and knowledge. They also can function well as a revision tool - allowing students to refresh their memory - over the 2-year GCSE course, it is amazing what gets forgotten!

This is the second in the series, you can find the first collection of letters which cover Medieval medicine also on TES, created by me (HerodotusTeacher) - there is no direct connection, they operate independently of each other but have the same combination of readability and information.

If you like this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to request further letter series on ANY topic. Industrial Medicine and Modern Medicine will be coming soon!

Letters from the Past - Industrial Individuals of Medicine

Do your students mix up their Lister and their Simpson, their Pasteur and their Koch? Panic no more - here comes an exciting new resource which brings together a wealth of knowledge about the key individuals from the Industrial Period of Medicine.
Namely the third time period in the Edexcel Medicine in Britain course (c.1700-c.1900)
This wonderful resource can be used as a starting point, a homework or revision. It combines the two most important aspects of GCSE history; knowledge and analysis.
As they read the letters the students will both gain knowledge on the changes and impacts these individuals had upon 18th and 19th century medicine. But, they will also engage in the debate as to who has had the biggest impact, what constitutes an impact, what makes a medical individual the most important.
All good skills of analysis and debate that can help with those tricky 16 mark questions!
Each couplet of letters are followed by ready to answer questions AND a series of bigger questions at the end.
This is a ready to use resource!
It is also the third in a series of Letters from the Past - please check out my other resources on Medieval Medicine and Renaissance Medicine. There’s even a free resource to check out called ‘Letters from the Trenches!’

16 mark question breakdown - Edexcel Medicine in Britain

Are you struggling to explain to your students how to get as many marks as possible on those big essay questions?

This resource aims to break down the 16 marker with some top tips AND three examples to two different 16 mark questions. (Six answers in total).

This is based on my experience of not only teaching the Medicine in Britain content at GCSE level but also marking for Edexcel after the summer exams.

The information is broken down simply in bullet points (what to use for each answer) which can then be compared against the answers - teachers could even use the answers themselves and get the students to spot/ highlight good sections or key information. Another alternative would be to give the students the information and the answers and get them to practice marking answers. Or indeed writing their own answers and using my notes to work out how many marks it’d be likely to get.
