Binary and Decimal Puzzle and Worksheet KS3

The tarsia puzzle could be used as a quick review activity, alongside an extension worksheet to encourage students to think of the number of bits required when converting values.

The tarsia puzzle is made up of 9 triangles which the students can cut out and then rearrange to match binary numbers to their decimal equivalent.

The worksheet looks for the students to convert decimal to binary in the fewest possible bits and then leaves a space for the students to make up their own questions.

There is a solution sheet for the tarsia puzzle and the worksheet, as well as reference sheet for students on how to complete conversion between binary and decimal.
