Three Tarsia jigsaws - Synonyms and Dictionary tarsia are designed to demonstrate the difference between a dictionary and thesaurus.
The syllables jigsaw will help with an understanding of 'le' syllables.
Here a couple of resources I have used with ESOL learners who were preparing for an examination that included the topic of elections..
One is a traditional article taken from the BBC website. I've added a copy of the vocabulary to the end of the article which can be used for cutting up and matching.
The second is set of ballot papers which you can use to explain different types of voting. This is done by choosing which supermarket we should spend money.
You will need to understand the system of PR yourself before you use it.
Two worksheets based on the transcripts of two BBC skillswise video clips.
'Chris's story - income protection insurance' and
'Neil and Denise's story - gap insurance'
Useful for encouraging discussion of insurance.
This is an adaptation of an interesting article on learnenglish, the British Council Website. I've added a vocabulary matching exercise created on lessonwriter.com and the lyrics to Danny Boy.
A quickly created set of exercises based on the BBC News website. The first is a simple capital letters exercise. The second exercise is was created using .lessonwriter.com and is suitable for higher levels.
A SIMPLE GAP FILLED WORKSHEET BASED ON THE SONG OUR HOUSE BY MADNESS.
I AM GOING TO USE IT WITH A GROUP OF ESOL LEARNERS TO PROMOTE WRITING ABOUT HOME BUT IT CONTAINS ELEMENTS OF PRESENT CONTINOUS, COMMON PHRASES AND RHYME.
THERE ARE MANY OTHER DOWNLOADS AVAILABLE BUT IT WAS QUICKER TO DO MY OWN.
I use the clip from Masterchef with my ESOL classes regularly and I thought this activity sheet might be helpful to other users.
For use with BBC learning zone clip 11704

A vocabulary exercise based on a budget article taken from BBC business news:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21692530
It can be used in conjunction with an audio version available:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-21855816
After studying the vocabulary I will ask the learners to use the words in discussion or in sentences.
I used www.lessonwriter.com to find my definitions.
This is designed specifically for use with BBC LEARNING ZONE CLASS CLIP 9652. It is simple listen and tick sheet which learners complete as they watch the 5 minute clip.
Hopefully, colleagues will then be able to follow this up with discussion.
I used this worksheet as part of a lesson working through the British Council Learning English plan:

"Britain is Great - English is Great" but I think it works as a stand alone sheet.
This set of materials was inspired an article in the Oldham Evening Chronicle. There was a neighbourhood dispute over a sonic deterrent. I used the attached to provoke debate and to develop vocabulary skills
This is based on an exhibition of fashion designed by Kate Plumtree. It is currently being held at Gallery Oldham.
I used postcards from the exhibition for learners to explore ideas.
