This lesson is based around a turn based role play game that the students play that I created called The Empire of Krum. This game gives the students kingdoms with rich backgrounds whose role they assume for the duration of the lesson, each different kingdom has differentiated history and resources (which are provided). The students are then given various roles (this works best with mixed ability groupings) The students have a variety of moves that they can do on their turn including: going to war, making an alliance or making a trade. This lesson became a student favourite and fuelled an after school club.

This lesson can either work as one lesson and a homework or two lessons. In it we identify the difference between AD and BC as well as teaching students how to timeline. The concept of anachronism is also introduced during this lesson in an engaging and stimulating manner.
