I would read this letter to KS2 children then follow it by reading a short story by Terry Prachett. I recently bought Dragons at Crumbling Castle for my Year 5 class, which he wrote as a child. It is accessible to younger children and full of word play. It is an inspiration to young writers and might well encourage them to read further stories by the author, well into their teens. It also offers children an insight into how authors might begin their careers from an early age. I hope this great man is celebrated in the coming years and I hope his stories becomes classic reading material.
