These 2 worksheets are a great lesson starter to recap students’ ability to identify language techniques.
To save paper, each worksheet is ready to be printed as 2 pages per A4 paper.
I usually hand out the first worksheet, Matching Language Techniques 1, to my Year 8 and 9 classes as a lesson starter before I annotate poetry and short stories with them. It helps students remember the different types of language techniques before annotating a text as a class.
In the following lesson, I would give my students Matching Language Techniques 2 and it’s a bit more challenging because they’re familiar with the language techniques from the first one.
Nonetheless, I had a low performing Year 9 class and so I’ve made a differentiated version of Matching Language Techniques 2 to ensure that it’s not too hard for them.
