-references and quotations from various performances of the play throughout the ages, with specific references to how the portrayal of certain characters and themes has changed over time (e.g. Gertrude/female sexuality)
-key characters: Hamlet, Gertrude, Claudius, Ophelia, Polonius (with key quotes for each character and critical quotations)
-key themes: political corruption, women, fatherhood and tradition, deception, delay and depression (with key quotes for each character and critical quotations)
-references to other texts of the period
