Alphabet and Phonic Knowledge Test

This resource contains a range of tests covering alphabetic and phonic knowledge. It’s designed for teachers who want to check these aspects for their learners, but it’s perfectly suitable for home-schoolers or other parents who are working with their own children.

The pack contains:

• Introduction sheet with background information and product description
• Instructions for checking alphabetic and phonic knowledge using Checklists 1 - 3
• Non-Word reading test instructions
• Alphabet and Phonic Knowledge recording form
• Non-Word Reading Test recording form

It also contains the Student Materials in a choice of font:
*** Sassoon Font** - recommended, as this is the standard font used under the UK early literacy curriculum

• Comic Sans - commonly used font, which is visually suitable for younger learners
• Plain Font - This is a font which has clear letter shapes, but without the cursive flick which Sassoon has

We’d actually recommend using the Sassoon Font, but that’s entirely your choice and may depend on the style chosen by your school or teaching institution. All fonts are suitable for primary school use.

We’d recommend that you print out the instructions and recording forms on paper, but print your choice of student materials on white A4 card. It’s a good idea to laminate these to keep them looking nice. Materials can be printed in black and white or, preferably, in colour.
