This looks like the same approach that I would adopt, so not tried it yet but should be really useful.
A good practice resource
This is a really good PowerPoint of compound shapes. I would be tempted to have the questions printed so pupils work on them individually as I think it would be particularly helpful to them when working out the area of the different sections. I would use this for revision as it is something that is regularly assessed on GCSE papers and something foundation pupils often find difficult. Thank you for sharing.
