Assembly or Play written for a class of 18 children, but the lines could easily be distributed for a class of 30 (age range 4 - 7)
Estimated time 20 - 25 mins but could be easily edited to be shorter or longer.

The premise is that a fairy tale dragon’s magical Castle is crumbling because people don’t write fairy tales anymore. He asks for some help from some magical authors. The first few attempts are not successful as they haven’t thought of all the relevant features needed to write a story. However, they work out that they need a main character, a problem that needs to be solved, story telling language and a little bit of magic!
Their main character goes on a journey interacting with other fairy tale characters. What he says and does may change how the world sees him. There’s a lot at stake!

A powerpoint of slides to match the script has been included as well as an opportunity for the children to show off some of their own writing work with a suggested activity.

The songs suggested on the script are from ‘Out of the Ark’ music and therefore lyrics have not been included for these. However, the music is not nessecary for the srcript if you would rather do without music or choose your own songs.

I had a lot of fun writing this assembly. My class thoroughly enjoyed performing it. There are jokes and puns for a range of ages as well as themes from literacy lessons appropriate for Reception and Key Stage 1 children. It was praised by the staff, children and parents in the audience. I hope it can be useful to others and enjoyed by many more audiences.
