Since it is not working in radians you can not use tan p =p, thus need to do 'inverse tan' to calculate p. Alternatively, you can convert 8.7 light years to 2.667 parsecs, then you can easily calculate that the parallax angle = 1/2.667 = 0.375 arc seconds.
