The concept of atom economy is introduced by looking at the disadvantages of forming waste products using a given example.
Students then work out the equation to calculate atom economy given three different examples.
Some atom economy questions follow. These also involve aspects from other sections of amount of substance including empirical formula and concentration calculations to test students wider understanding of the topic.
There is a summary question to complete on mini-whiteboards at the end of the lesson to ensure students have understood the concept.
All answers are given throughout.
