Includes a link to a video series on algebra mass spectrometry calculations.
An 24 page independent study workbook for AQA AS and A-level Chemistry Atomic structure (specification reference 3.1.1).
This workbook is designed to for students to complete independently and covers the full ‘Atomic structure’ topic. It requires them to practice applying their knowledge as they learn the material, allowing them to develop the skills they need for the exams. It’s ideal for home learning, revision, or students studying A-level chemistry as external candidates.
The workbooks guides students to make notes on the following:
Fundamental particles
Isotopes
Time of flight mass spectrometry
Ar/abundance calculations (inc. algebra video tutorials)
TOF calculations (includes 3 practice calculations and instructions on using Avogadro’s number to calculate mass and a link to worked examples from the RSC)
Abundance of chlorine and bromine molecules
Electron configurations
Ionisation energies
Chemworkbooks
Each workbook is designed to guide students through one AQA A-level Chemistry topic.
They instruct them on what to make notes on and challenge them to apply their knowledge. The workbooks also help students make synoptic links between the topics. They’re suitable for students who are studying a topic independently, or to supplement work done in class.
The workbooks are challenging to complete, but they force students to really think about the content and make exam-focused notes instead of just mindlessly copying out the text book.
They were produced with the Oxford AQA textbooks in mind, but students could use any AQA Chemistry textbook, youtube videos to complete them. In some cases they go beyond what’s in the textbooks, as some sections are application-based, so they may need to consult a variety of resources.
Each workbook also includes study tips and teaches skills relevant to each topic (e.g. writing ionic equations) where relevant.
