Make adding numbers up to 6 fun using these easy-prep maths autumn or FALL maths games. Your Early years students will love to add 2 numbers in pairs & small groups and use their mathematics skills to practice addition. This resource is ideal for celebrating the fall colours, but it can be used throughout the year.
Most young children love games, and these resources lend themselves well to practicing key maths skills, recognizing numerals and adding 2 numbers 1, 2 and 3 to make the sum 2 to 6.
Differentiation is easy.
- Easy: provide manipulatives for extra support for students who are at the stage where they need to count objects and use the leaves board game and dice or spinners as it is easier to count 3 leaves and 2 leaves together than use numerals.
- Middle: Use the leaves board game.
- Harder: use the game board with numerals which is a more abstract concept as students have to visualize what 3 looks like as a quantity.
- Challenge: use the board with the tally pictures and add the tally on 2 spinners or dice
Ask questions such as:
- How many acorns can you ‘see’ without counting - subitizing?
- Can you make a sum using the symbols and show me 3 + 2 = ? using your whiteboard – addition skills?
- Is 3+2 the same as 2+3?
The resources are great for lessons, child-initiated play activities, tuff trays, maths centres, role-play areas, extra maths practice, fun homework, homeschooling, substitute teachers, fall or autumn topics - a versatile resource that you can use often.
