This includes a lesson plan and slides for recount writing based on the story: The Truth about My Unbelievable Summer by David Cali.

The aim is to use this as a back to school assessment of writing activity and can be up-levelled according to the year group you teach.

This will produce more imaginative writing than a ‘what did you do this summer’ recount which a) doesn’t inspire children to write and b) isn’t inclusive, as some children might not have done much whereas other might have gone on several holidays.

The lesson goes through:

  • What a recount is and how to write one
  • Questions to ask the children about the story
  • How to plan a recount
  • Scaffolded Sheet for writing

I hope you enjoy using this resource in your classroom!
