Delivered to year 9 as part of the introduction to KS4 chemistry. This lesson teaches students how to name compounds (based on metals and the presence of oxygen). The lesson then has an activity for the students to complete familiar word equations and name compounds from their chemical formula.
Students are then introduced to the conservation of mass.
Animated slides help show students the importance of balancing equations and how to go about solving questions.
Practice questions with answers are provided.
Finally students are introduced to reactions that appear to gain or lose mass.
Plenary is exam style questions with animated answers.
