Objective: Books all across America have been banned within educational institutions. Three iconic books from this prohibited collection includes To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Students will be able to examine why these books were banned, and collaborate in a critical thinking activity which investigates the consequences of book banning.

Duration: 2 days

Grade: Advanced Placement Literature Classes for grades 11-12

Materials: Copies/excerpts of each book, student handout with critical thinking questions, proper multimedia equipment such as a computer/projector, and a blackboard/whiteboard with the proper writing utensil.
