This resource is a way to visually represent subtraction involving borrowing, giving a real-life context and understanding to an otherwise abstract concept.
Closed boxes of 10 chocolates represent tens, open boxes represent units.
I have included the activity in SMART Notebook, ActivInspire and PowerPoint formats. I have also added large and small images of the boxes for use with children/on displays. As a practical alternative, 10 Numicons with marbles would work well to give the children a physical resource to accompany the activity. A guide to how I used the files is also included.
