Why did the development of public transportation systems, like cable cars and electric trolleys, play a crucial role in the growth and expansion of cities during the urbanization era from 1850 to 1917? This lesson and activity examines the background and impact of urbanization, or the growth of cities. Students will analyze documents and answer corresponding scaffolding questions. They will answer the final summary question to apply their knowledge.
