CVC Words and Picture Match Early Reading Activity

Reading activity for early readers, ideal for children who have starting learning sounds in either nursery or reception, or great for those who may be older but are struggling to read.

This activity pack includes 5 sheets where children are asked to read a simple word and draw a line to the matching picture. Each page has 4 words and pictures to match.

This activity supports the following statements from the Development Matters document.

• print has meaning (expected of a 3-4 year old)

• we read English text from left to right and from top to bottom (expected of a 3-4 year old)

• recognise words with the same initial sound, such as money and mother (expected of a 3-4 year old)

• Read individual letters by saying the sounds for them (expected of a reception age child)

• Blend sounds into words, so that they can read short words made up of known letter– sound correspondences (expected of a reception age child)
