A video showing both an inelastic and an elastic collision involving carts on a linear air track. Students analyse the collisions mathematically to explore what happens to the total momentum and total kinetic energy in different types of collisions. Can be used in differentiated lesson as help files can be handed out to less able students, while more capable students can design their own data tables and do calculations with/without guidance to complete investigation. Also includes a powerpoint which can be used by the teacher to introduce the activity.
