This is a lesson that I taught to my year 10 Biologists to help them understand the relationship between surface area and rate of diffusion. They we easily able to link the results to why cells are so small (when combined with surface area:volume ratio) and why the small intestine has villi.
There is no mention of osmosis as whilst the experiment is clearly showing the movement of water I wanted my class to be thinking of diffusion of substances rather than just water.
