PLANNING IDEAS
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE | Listen to a rhyme/Say or sing the rhyme together/Make the sound effects/Say the words/Look out for phoneme sounds that the children know whilst focusing on the rhythm of the words and presenting appropriate new phoneme sounds/Focus on number names and sequence
PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT | Discuss our ages/Birthdays/How many candles on our birthday cakes?
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT | Link to outdoor literacy and number/Act out and count/pattern/sequence outdoors
LITERACY | Rhyming - Can we hear/spot the words that sound the same?
MATHEMATICS | How many? Can we count along? Can we match each number with a cube/counter/penny? Can we count on? Can we jump each time we hear a number? Discuss pairs? Can you show me a pair of shoes? What is an odd number? Why is it an odd number? Can you show me an odd shoe?
UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD | Link the rhyme to everyday events such as healthy eating | Can we share an odd number of peas? Strawberries?
EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN | Create pictures for the rhymes Can the children create rhyming words/strings? Add the numerals | Use Playdoh to make the numerals | Make a round cake for a friend – how many candles do you need to add?
