This series of lessons is created to introduce students to the basis of empires and how the stage was set for WW1. It looks at the origins of colonialism, the legacy of empires and the factors that contributed to the world we live in today. It seeks to bring in contemporary questions and frame them as non-fiction tasks loosely based on AQA Language Paper 2 - Non-fiction.

The series of lessons is intended as a precursor to our study of Journey’s End with Year 9, but could be used anywhere from Y9-Y11 onwards. A selection of video clips, diary extracts, and mini-debates.

There are between 10-15 lessons worth of work in here. English Language. All in ppt.

There are some additional lessons and starter tasks that relate to Dunkirk and the evacuation of it that are taken from one of my other previous schemes of work.
