This is an ESL English lesson, tailored to the new Pearson Edexcel (2023) ESL GCSE examination series. The lesson focuses on the second unit: Education.
Students are given images of different types of technology and discuss what they are used for with their partner. Based on their ability, they choose an item and write down any nouns, verbs and adjectives that are associated with the equipment. Students then work in pairs to create a timeline of the technology from the oldest to the most modern, before selecting one piece and writing down the pros and cons of it. Finally, students participate in a debate where they are assigned teams of either ‘for’ or ‘against’ using a certain piece of technology. Most tasks are differentiated to accommodate those with a basic level of English, to the more proficient speakers.
