This unit contains multiple readings, activities, and worksheets related to man-made flight. Below is a brief summary of what’s in this unit.

Science Readings: Four short readings on flight with questions and tasks. These are great to use as bell ringers or for your students to work through to increase their understanding of flight. The readings answer the following questions;
How do planes fly?
How does a jet engine work?
How does a hot-air balloon work?
How does a helicopter fly?

Activities: Two hands on activities with worksheets. These activities will engage your students - they are easier done with smaller classes or in larger spaces such as a gym. Activities; Paper helicopter investigation.
Paper plane investigation.

Research Projects: Included are three organizers which will provide guidance to your students as they conduct research. Best done if your students have access to the internet. Suggested links are included.
Topics are; The first flight: The Wright brothers
Choose a plane to research
Choose a pilot to research

Design presidents plane: area & design math activity
Create a passport: design/art activity
Race around the world: look at flight times and research the wonders of the world.
Story/Writing activity: write a story about a fictional plane journey
