This short fiction story is under 5,000 words and written specifically to grip middle schoolers and give them a joy of reading. It comes with two levels of comprehension questions. The harder set will cover most of your CC Standards RL.6.1 to RL.6.6. The lower-level questions are perfect for less-able readers or those who need support with comprehension and understanding.
