These worksheets have been designed and proven to educate learners on a variety of world foods and recipes while promoting creativity and individuality.
This particular unit of work includes a selection of engaging theory tasks (see below) that will enable them to gain new knowledge of this popular cuisine. Learners will then have the opportunity to plan, prepare and follow a Cottage Pie recipe and method. They will finally self-assess their performance, receive feedback from an observer and set targets as part of their overall evaluation.
The 8 tasks are set as follows:
Lets Start with a Quiz - Introductory Multiple choice and True & False quiz covering history and facts around the Cottage Pie.
What can be used - Being a very versatile dish this allows learners to include the basic and less common ingredients. They can discuss different tastes, likes an dislikes.
Traditional British foods - An activity that requires the learners to unscramble anagrams of various British foods and brainstorm any others they are familiar with.
The Perfect Cottage Pie - Learners to work in pairs to investigate alternative ingredients and how they can accommodate lactose and wheat intolerances.
Health and Safety - A task that enables learners to highlight health, hygiene and safety awareness in the Kitchen.
How to make a Cottage pie (method) - A problem solving task where learners have to rearrange the steps of making a Cottage pie and correctly paste them on to the method they will be using later.
Over to you - Practical Element, learners will pair up to follow a method and cook a Traditional Cottage Pie using various ingredients supplied.
