This is a detailed lesson and PowerPoint explaining how a potential difference is induced by a magnet and coil of wire. This is the sixth lesson in the Electromagnetism unit of work (P7).

The lesson covers the basic idea of inducing a PD and current, then moves on to explain how to work out the orientation of the current flow and induced magnetic field in a coil of wire. The differences between an alternator and dynamo are covered including the graphs of current over time.

Ideas for differentiation, discussion, research and homework also included in lesson plan as well as the equipment list for a recommended investigation and demonstration of AC / DC on an oscilloscope.
