This is a lesson and PowerPoint explaining the penetrating and ionising ability of alpha, beta and gamma radiation. This is the sixth lesson in the Atomic Structure unit of work (P4).

The lesson covers the main diagram used when discussing penetration through materials, recaps the depth expected to penetrate through air and summarises the overall properties in a table.

There is a detailed lesson plan with notes on teaching, a PowerPoint to support the lesson and a copy of two of the slides in word format for easy printing for less able pupils.

Also included is a risk assessment for the use of radiation in the classroom (by teachers)
