Gothic openings to texts can be tricky, but this lesson looks at narrative hooks and structure, using examples from both Gothic films and narratives in order to introduce different types of beginnings to students. We analyse a number of film clips to look at how they hook us into a story before studying the opening sentences to Gothic texts like Northanger Abbey, Wuthering Heights and more. A brilliant lesson for both KS3 and KS4 students analysing Gothic texts and characters.
