This lesson introduces the halogens. It gives general information into their naming and uses linked to their properties.
Using an animation it shows how the covalent bond is formed to allow the Halogens to be diatomic.
Students are then lead through a step by step guide to explaining the reactivity of the Halogens with regards to their electrons and distance from nucleus.
Displacement is explained using a simple anecdote. The experiment is provided if you wish to attempt this with your students. After explaining / practical there are equations questions to test the students learning.
Plenary is exam style questions.
