This is a 70+ page resource bundle based on the thrilling Australian book 200 Minutes of Danger by Jack Heath.

200 Minutes of Danger by Jack Heath is an adrenaline-pumping collection of ten short stories, each presenting a unique character trapped in a perilous situation. With only 20 minutes to escape each life-threatening scenario, the characters must rely on their wits, courage, and quick thinking to survive. From sinking ships to terrifying monsters, every story delivers intense suspense and heart-racing action. Perfect for young readers who love thrilling, edge-of-your-seat adventures, this book keeps the tension high from start to finish.

This book was selected to be a mentor text to teach the Stage Two NESA Unit (15): Narrative. The resources are designed both to provoke deep thinking about the text, but also to be completely independent. The only prep you need to do is printing or uploading to google classroom or a similar platform.

This bundle of resources consists of:

  • a 40-page comprehension guide. The guide is organised chapter-by-chapter with three full pages for every chapter. This guide focuses on a range of skills, such as literal and inferential understanding, text-to-self connections, author purpose, cause and effect and much much more. Each chapter also has an associated vocabulary booster, which requires students to use contextual clues to decode the meaning of new words, and then apply these in their own writing. There is an answer guide for the literal comprehension questions.

  • a set of ten full-colour literacy centre task cards based on the text. These include a range of Creative and Practical Arts integrated tasks, as well as informative, imaginative and persuasive writing prompts. Task cards are given both in PDF and PowerPoint formats.

  • all associated printables linked to the task cards, which can be used for a range of literature. These are a set of high-interest, high-choice worksheets.

  • a bonus printable writing prompt, whereby students are required to elaborate on the text to create an imaginative text which integrates with the structure, plot and settings of 200 Minutes of Danger. This is presented as a PowerPoint with prompt and guidelines. Planning templates are also included.

This resource provides weeks of learning, covering reading, writing and speaking and listening.

This book would be suitable for a whole class read-aloud, or as a reading group text for Stage Two or Stage Three students.

I have many other literature-based resources in my store (most of them Australian) so feel free to check them out.

All of my resources are 20% for the first 48 hours, so be sure to hit the green “follow me” star to be alerted when they drop.

Happy reading!
