A simple one lesson PowerPoint presentation that begins by asking students to create a diagram of the Dawes Plan from memory, as a review to a previous lesson. The teacher then debriefs the diagrams and reviews the strengths and weaknesses of the Dawes Plan and the Weimar economy in general. Students are then assigned to watch a YouTube clip from the “Crash Course European History” series about the Great Depression and European Dictators. A key question is included on the slide to initiate a follow up class discussion. The lesson then concludes with an in-class reading on other factors contributing to Hitler’s rise to power and a written task asking students to assess the extent to which German democracy was destroyed by the Great Depression.
